Mistakes: Common misjudgments and errors in managing the child which may perpetuate or intensify the problem.

  1. Getting caught in a verbal conflict to the point of using harsh words or swear words ourselves.

  2. Punishing the whole group for the behavior of one person.

  3. Ignoring the situation until it's completely out of control.

  4. Acting inconsistently with smartmouth students. When we do so, we demonstrate that we are acting on a personal rather than a professional level.

  5. Failing to counsel this student privately.

  6. Losing composure.

  7. Failing to see this student's hurt.
