The Influencer
Behavior: Specific attitudes and actions of this child at home and/or at school.
- Often a popular student and a natural leader. Has the power to influence.
- Pits people against people. Will get students fighting with each other or pit class against teacher.
- Usually very capable and intelligent.
- Delights in "trapping" teacher or making schoolwork seem insignificant.
- Almost always intimidates a specific group of students.
- Causes problems in direct proportion to the number of his/her followers.
- May even make rules that conflict with classroom or school rules.
- Laughs at what teacher says, ridicules what teacher does, and degrades the importance of what teacher presents in class. And his/her followers listen.
- Will not permit his/her followers to listen to anyone else, including teacher. There can be only one master as far as the influencer is concerned, and he/she must be the master.
- Seldom disrupts directly. Rather, gets his/her followers to do it.
- Encourages others to speak out, complain about an assignment, or refuse to comply with teacher requests.
- Frequently, is not at the scene of the disturbance he/she promotes. If at the scene, acts like an innocent bystander, because he/she is a coward.
