The Fighter

Behavior: Specific attitudes and actions of this child at home and/or at school.

  1. Continually involved in physical fights with other children.

  2. Has a need to be first, best, or strongest.

  3. Has a fighting mentality. Therefore, tends to fight before he/she thinks.

  4. Continually complains to the teacher about other kids, schoolwork, fairness, etc.

  5. Sees him/herself as being always right and never wrong.

  6. Gains some pleasure from antagonizing and hurting others.

  7. Likely to have very few close friends.

  8. Has been taught to solve problems by fighting. A close look may reveal that the student was taught this behavior at home.

  9. May act sorry, but doesn't see any alternatives to fighting.

  10. Feels superior when he/she wins a fight. And, when he/she loses, talks about the "next time." Examination will reveal that some fighters seldom win. Rather, they absorb a great deal of physical punishment in every fight, yet continue to instigate more fights.
