The Liar

Behavior: How exactly is my child behaving?

  1. Fabricates and tells unbelievable stories, even when he or she knows others won't believe them.

  2. Exaggerates even the smallest detail.

  3. Lies about what he or she has done, and about what he or she hasn't done.

  4. Tries to improve his or her own image in the eyes of others by telling falsehoods about others—and about himself or herself.

  5. Likely to be a loner.

  6. Will not accept blame for his or her own actions. Rather, makes up stories to "cover" the matter being questioned.

  7. Tries to persuade others to support his or her lies—including parents, peers, and teachers.

  8. Attempts to receive special treatment or get away with something by lying.

  9. Accuses others of injustice when confronted with a lie.

  10. May lie to teacher about parents—and to parents about teacher.
